Yaphank, NY – Sal Diaz tallied four hits including two home runs, while
Johnathan Guerrero and
Jayden Cunningham each pitched six innings of zero earned runs, and the SUNY Canton baseball team concluded a 3-1 weekend with a sweep of Lehman Saturday afternoon.
In game one, the Roos had three big innings to win 11-0. After the Lightning pulled ahead 2-1 in the second game, SUNY Canton proceeded to score 16 unanswered runs to win in 15-run fashion 17-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1 – BOX SCORE
- Two pitches into the second inning, and the Roos were up 1-0 after Jared Paone whacked a home run. The damage did not end there either and Mark Maybee Jr. singled, Jacob Ortiz was plunked, then AJ Campi drove both of them home with a double to the wall to plate three in the inning.
- The Roos poured on the runs in the fifth inning. Zack Baiani had his first career home run in the frame and Chris McLean and Diaz both drove in a run off a single, while Campi had a sacrifice fly as the Roos scored five to go ahead 8-0.
- Meanwhile thoughout all of this, Jonathan Guerrero was tossing a gem on the rubber. The California native pitched out of a few jams in the early innings, faced the minimum in both the fourth and fifth innings, then concluded his outing with a shutout sixth.
- The Roos scored three more times in the sixth frame and set up Brady Roberts with an 11-run lead in the seventh.
- Roberts had two looking strikeouts to work around a walk to end the game 11-0.
- Baiani had his first career home run in addition to three hits and two RBIs. Paone homered as part of two-hit night. The Roos had nine stolen bases in the game.
- Guerrero earned his second win of the season with six shutout innings, allowing four hits and punching out four
GAME 2 -
BOX SCORE
- It was not until the third inning that some scoring started with Ortiz starting the offense with a base hit, then stealing second. A couple deep flyballs by Campi and McLean scored Ortiz for the first run of the game.
- Lehman got some runs in the bottom of the frame though, with a couple singles and stolen bases to plate two runs and go ahead 2-1.
- In the fourth, an error, a single by Korbin Lovejoy, and then an Ortiz hit-by-pitch packed the bags. One run scored on a wild pitch, then another two came across the plate after Campi ripped a double into the right field corner as the Roos restored their lead, this time up to 4-2.
- Diaz had his second homer of the weekend in the fifth inning as the Roos went out ahead 5-2.
- SUNY Canton blew the game open in the sixth inning with the first seven runners reaching base, this included two-RBI doubles by Ortiz and Campi, followed by a two-run bomb off the bat of Diaz. Three more runs came across to score, and the Roos were in the driver's seat 14-2.
- After giving up two runs in the sixth, Cunningham finished his start with three scoreless innings to get SUNY Canton through the sixth.
- More Roos got involved in the seventh inning with Jaheim Robinson plating another with a sacrifice fly and then Gabe Wainwright cranked a two-run double to push the Roos up to 17 runs.
- Adam Cook came into pitch to finish the job in the bottom of the seventh and ended the game with a 1-2-3 frame with the final out being a looking strikeout to give the Roos the sweep of Lehman.
