Canton, NY – Kat McRobbie-Taru, a sophomore on the women's basketball team, and
Riley Andzel, a junior on the women's hockey team, have been named this week's Roos of the Week.
McRobbie-Taru averaged 17.7 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game shooting 47% from the field leading the Roos to an unbeaten 3-0 week in SUNYAC play. She opened the week with a double-double posting game-highs of 20 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks in a 58-50 road win at Oneonta on Tuesday. The sophomore posted game-highs of 20 points and four blocks to go with five rebounds and an assist in a 78-69 win against Plattsburgh on Friday. McRobbie-Taru closed out the week posting 13 points, four rebounds and a block shooting 5-for-9 from the field and 3-for-3 from the line in an 88-67 victory against Potsdam on Saturday.
Andzel had a hand in three of the Roos five goals on the weekend registering two goals and one assist leading Canton to an unbeaten weekend against Utica in a pair of games at Herb Brooks Arena in Lake Placid. On Saturday she scored midway through the third period to cut the deficit in half as the Roos earned a 2-2 tie against the Pioneers before winning the shootout. On Sunday Andzel recorded a goal and assist including scoring the game-winner 2:56 into the third period of a 3-2 win. She finished the weekend with a +2 on-ice rating and now leads the team with six goals on the season.
