Lebron Logs Two Shots in Roos Game Against St. Lawrence

Canton, NY – Senior midfielder Owen Lebron got off his first two shots of the season, but the SUNY Canton men's soccer team was handed a loss by the crosstown St. Lawrence Saints 2-0 Saturday afternoon.

THE BASICS
  • Result: St Lawrence 2, SUNY Canton 0
  • Location: SUNY Canton Turf Field – Canton, NY
  • Records: SUNY Canton (1-6-0) | St. Lawrence (1-4-0)
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Possession was nearly even early on, although the Saints held a 2-0 advantage in shots through the first 20 minutes.
  • In the 22nd minute, St. Lawrence got a great look by Ryan Campbell right inside the 18-yard-box which Canton's keeper Nolan Sullivan made a diving save on.
  • The ball deflected to Henry Hart of the visiting team, who found Dennis Argueta open in the corner of the 18. Argueta one timed it, and this time Sullivan could not reach the ball as it went into the back of the net for a 1-0 St. Lawrence lead.
  • The last three minutes of the first half looked scary for the Roos as the Saints pressured with two shots on net, two corner kicks, and a shot off the left post but the Roos stood their ground and the half ended 1-0 in favor of the Saints.
  • St. Lawrence had all eight shots at the break with half of those being on net. They also had a 4-0 advantage in corner kicks.
  • Twenty minutes into the second half, Demetrius Blake Jr. was fouled near the end line leading to a free kick from the Roos. Lebron took it and attempted a shot but it was saved by St. Lawrence goalkeeper Zach Amato.
  • Not long after this, Lebron picked the pocket of a St. Lawrence defender in the Saints zone, leading to a shot from the corner by Lebron which was just wide.
  • With the Roos making some noise after a strong sequence, the Saints quickly regained momentum. Just 15 seconds after he entered the game in the 70th minute, St. Lawrence's Sammy Bothwell got a cross pass from Cam Moyers. Bothwell had a good look right inside the box and placed it bottom left out of the reach of Joey Raap for the Saints second goal of the afternoon.
  • A shot from Hayden Brimelow with 12 minutes to play was the third and final shot attempt of the night for SUNY Canton as Amato was very active intercepting cross passes and preventing good looks from the Roos the rest of the game as the Saints defeated the Roos for their first win on the season.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Lebron had two of the three shots for the Roos and the only shot on net. Brimelow had the other attempt late in the second half.
  • Ten different Saints had shots on the night with Argueta and Bothwell as the two goal-scorers.
  • St. Lawrence beat their crosstown rivals in shot attempts (16-3), shots on goal (8-1), and corner kicks (7-1).
  • Sullivan and Raap, splitting the goalkeeping duties in the first and second halves respectively, each allowed one goal on four shots. Amato had to make only one save on the day for the Saints .
