Salamanca, NY – Kayden Guerin tossed eight innings giving up just a single run to lead the Roos to a 10-1 win in the opener before Canton fell 13-7 in the nightcap in a doubleheader against Fredonia on Saturday.
The Roos gave Guerin plenty of offensive support, mashing 19 hits and scoring 10 runs in an error free game by both teams in the opener. Guerin picked up his first win of the season, as the Roos earned their first ever SUNYAC win, with Nick Syposs taking up the loss in three innings of work.
Alphonse Fuca began the third inning barrage and each hitter who followed would get on base as the Roos brought 12 batters to the plate in the top half of inning. Guerin kept the Blue Devils quiet until late in the game, as they would break up the shutout bid in the bottom of the eighth inning.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1 – BOX SCORE
- Through the first two frames, neither team was able to put much offense together, as Chris McLean opened the game with a leadoff double. Fredonia notched their first hit in the bottom of the second.
- The Roos would kick the door open in the third with a seven spot, as Alphonse Fuca led the inning off with a single, followed by McLean hitting his second double of the game.
- AJ Campi would bring Fuca home with a single, stealing second and setting the stage for Eliezer Vazquez after the Blue Devils pitched around Sal Diaz to load the bases.
- Vazquez followed through with an RBI single as McLean scored. Bradley Mills would continue the inning with a two RBI double to push the Canton lead to 4-0.
- Lance Phillips Jr. would knock two runs in with a single. Mark Maybee Jr. laid down a sacrifice and Derek Maldonado singled before Fuca concluded the scoring with a sacrifice fly to score Phillips Jr..
- Guerin would get out of the third inning unscathed, leaving two Blue Devils on base.
- The two teams would progress through the next two innings scoreless, as Guerin continued dealing a shutout.
- Canton would get back on the board in the top of the sixth inning as Campi singled with two outs. Diaz followed that up with an RBI triple to make it 8-0 Canton. Vazquez doubled Diaz home to give the Roos a 9-0 lead.
- Guerin carried his strong start into the eighth inning, where Fredonia would manage get on the board as Christian Cabrera knocked in an RBI single.
- The Roos would cap the scoring in the top of the ninth, adding a run on a McLean RBI single as Mills scored.
- Keegan Franklin came on in relief tossing a scoreless ninth with a strikeout to seal the win.
- Canton would finish the first game of the doubleheader with 10 runs on 19 hits and no errors. The offense was paced by McLean and Phillips Jr. with three hits each. Phillips Jr. and Vazquez both drove in two runs, as seven Roos recorded an RBI in the opener and seven scored a run, with Campi, Diaz, and Mills scoring twice each.
GAME 2 – BOX SCORE
- The Roos carried over their momentum from the opener in the nightcap producing four runs on three hits in the top of the first. Diaz doubled home Campi and Vazquez hit a two-run homer before Fuca walked in a run.
- Fredonia tacked on one run in the second and four in the third to take a 5-4 lead after three innings. The Devils added a run in the fourth before Canton knotted things up at six apiece with two runs in the fifth. Diaz doubled home Campi and Vazquez doubled home Diaz.
- The Roos regained the lead in the top half of the sixth on a Campi solo shot. Fredonia was quick to respond with two runs in the bottom half of the inning and five more in the seventh helped secure the Game 2 win.
- Campi, Diaz, Vazquez and Phillips Jr. all had two hits each with Vazquez and Diaz combining to drive in five runs.
- Christian Cabrera led Fredonia with three hits and three RBI while Alex Ahlstrom had two hits and two RBI. Kyle Tedford also drove in three runs.
- Peyton Ahlstrom picked up the win tossing four innings in relief allowing just one run with five strikeouts and a walk.
- Daniel Aviles took the loss for the Roos surrendering 12 runs with seven strikeouts and three walks in 6.1 innings.
