THE BASICS
- Result:Â Oswego State 2, SUNY Canton 1
- Location: Deborah F. Stanley Arena – Oswego, NY
- Records:Â Oswego State (22-2-2) | SUNY Canton (8-16-2)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Oswego doubled up Canton 12-6 in shots in the opening period but 12 saves from Townsley kept the game scoreless after 20 minutes of action.
- The Lakers continued to control the chances in the second period outshooting the Roos 14-2 and that paid off with a pair of second period tallies.
- Early in the period Lauren Schell played the puck from the left point out in front and the puck deflected right to Jenna Majewski at the far post who buried a shot into the right side of net at the 2:05 mark.
- The Lakers doubled their lead at the 13:16 mark as Schell fed the puck into the Oswego offensive zone for Rachel Corbett. Corbett beat Townsley low glove side as she appeared to be screened by a Canton defender. The Lakers led 2-0 after two periods.
- Trailing by two Canton pulled Townsley for the extra skater with 3:58 remaining.
- That decision paid off when Jackson lit the lamp on a loose puck on a scramble in front of net with 1:44 remaining after an initial shot from Riley Andzel was blocked.
- After the ensuing faceoff the Roos pulled Townsley once again with 1:14 remaining and an Oswego shot hit the pipe but Canton was unable to get a shot on goal to tie things up.
