Canton, NY – Kat McRobbie-Taru scored a game-high 24 points to go with 11 rebounds leading four Roos in double figures as the SUNY Canton women's basketball team opened its season with an 86-70 win against Franciscan on Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Canton jumped out to a quick 10-2 lead as Abigail Rice scored four points early along with a three each from Sierra Pabo and Hope Aniceto. The hosts led by as many as 11 in the opening quarter taking a 22-14 lead after 10 minutes of play.
- The Roos expanded their lead to as many as 17 outscoring the Barons 22-16 in the second stanza to take a 44-30 lead into intermission.
- Canton led by 21 just under three minutes into the third quarter after a fastbreak bucket inside from McRobbie-Taru. The hosts led 66-45 after three quarters of action.
- The Roos ballooned their lead to as many as 24 on multiple occasions in the fourth quarter, the first after an Aniceto trey. Canton still led by 24 with just less than five minutes remaining before a late Franciscan run trimmed the final score to a 16 point victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- McRobbie-Taru led the way with 24 points, 11 rebounds, five blocks, two steals and an assist shooting 12-for-23 from the field. Pabo chipped in 17 points and a game-high seven assists. Aniceto tallied 15 points, four assists and four steals, while Natalie Bush posted a career-high 11 points with four rebounds. Rice and Chelsie Tyler added seven points apiece with Rice adding five rebounds.
- The 24 points for McRobbie-Taru ties a career-high previously set last season against Clarkson. Bush's 11 points set a new career-high by a single point.
- Magdalen Simon paced the visitors with 17 points, while Caroline Reedy added 16 points and nine rebounds. Jazzlyn MeInyk recorded a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds, while Abbigail Jannuzi added 12 points.
- Canton shot nearly 41% from the field and 72% from the line, while the Barons recorded marks of nearly 37% and 81%.
- The Roos forced 21 Franciscan turnovers leading to a 37-10 advantage in points off turnovers. Canton also controlled points in the paint (46-26) and fast break points (27-13).
