Balcom, Cary & Hayes Lead Softball in Doubleheader vs. Morrisville

East Syracuse, NY – Sarah Balcom, Andrea Cary and Emma Hayes combined for seven hits and two RBI in the nightcap, but the SUNY Canton softball team dropped a pair of league games against SUNY Morrisville on Friday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
GAME 1 – BOX SCORE
  • Morrisville jumped out to an 11-0 lead after three innings in the opener scoring four runs in the first, five in the second and two in the third en route to the run-rule win in five innings.
  • Sophie Keehle and Jessica Budd had two hits each combining to drive in five runs for the Mustangs.
  • Priscilla Soule, Ace Rogers and Talor Ferrucci had one hit each for the Roos.
  • Piper Kaylor picked up the win for Morrisville tossing four innings without giving up a run with three strike outs and two walks.
  • Rogers took the loss allowing nine total runs with five walks.
 
GAME 2 – BOX SCORE
  • The Roos jumped out to a quick start in the nightcap scoring six runs in the opening inning.
  • Soule got Canton on the board scoring an unearned run after reaching on an error. Balcom and Cary scored on a wild pitch and Torie Moore crossed home on another error. Ferrucci brought across Reed on an RBI single and Hayes singled home Ferrucci.
  • The Mustangs responded with four runs in the third and five in the fourth to take a 9-6 lead after four innings.
  • Canton got within one in the fifth as Cary scored on a wild pitch and Hayes legged out an infield single to score Balcom.
  • Morrisville would add four runs in the bottom half of the fifth and three in the sixth for the 16-8 final.
  • Balcom led the Roos with three hits and two runs, while Cary and Hayes had two hits each and Hayes drove in a pair of runs.
  • Callie Lafontaine had four hits, four runs and two RBI for Morrisville, while Celeste Baldwin posted three hits including two home runs and eight RBI.
  • Kaylor earned her second win of the day with five innings in relief allowing two runs with three strike outs and a walk.
  • Caitlyn Reed took the loss surrendering 16 total runs with a strike out and four walks.
