Snook, Lenihan Lead Roos to Road Win Over Bengals

Buffalo, NY – Senior Desiree Snook scored a goal and added an assist and freshman Molly Lenihan made 19 saves on 20 shots to lead the SUNY Canton women's hockey team to a 3-1 win over Buffalo State in a SUNYAC matchup Tuesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Senior Iida Laitinen scored the opening goal at 18:42 of the first period with senior Victoria McGarrity and sophomore Jane Pancoe assisting.
  • Sophomore Danika Lalonde scored a power play goal to put the Roos up 2-0 midway through the second period.  Freshman Anna Pavlasova and Snook both earned assists.
  • Snook's goal was scored at 14:17 of the second to give the Roos a three-goal lead with senior Makayla Young assisting.
  • The Roos defense were solid in the third, allowing only three shots on net.  The Bengals ruined Lenihan's shutout bid with less than 20 seconds remaining when Carys Ursell snuck one past the Roo's goaltender.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Canton was a perfect 1/1 on the power play and a perfect 3/3 on the penalty kill.
  • Buffalo State had a slight edge at the faceoff dot 27-26.
  • Lenihan finished with 19 saves for Canton while her counterpart Jessica Auge made 36 saves for the Bengals.
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Roos await the two-game series between SUNY Morrisville and SUNY Potsdam to determine if they will qualify for the fourth and final SUNYAC playoff spot.  They are currently three points ahead of the Mustangs.
