- Location: Alumni Arena – Cortland, NY
- Records: SUNY Canton (9-4-0, 3-4-0 SUNYAC) | SUNY Cortland (7-3-1, 4-2-1 SUNYAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In a scoreless first period, Canton was out shot 12-4, but kept in the game behind the solid play of Lenihan.
- Cortland's Jillian Hlasnick scored their only goal in the second, making a nifty move to gain the blue line and snap a wrist shot over Lenihan's glove. Hlasnick's goal was assisted by Dany Donegan.
- Canton put the pressure on early in the third, badly out shooting the Red Dragons. It paid off when senior Makayla Young scored her first career goal at 3:04 of the period. Young took a tipped pass from senior Gracyn Emmerton behind the net and swept to the right of goaltender Molly Goergen before putting the puck just inside the far post to tie the game 1-1.
- Despite some exciting end-to-end hockey throughout the rest of the third period, neither team could solve the goaltenders, who each made several spectacular saves for their squads.
- In the three-on-three overtime period, Cortland got the first offensive opportunity, but a Lenihan blocker save put the puck out of play. Senior Desiree Snook cleanly won the ensuing faceoff to sophomore Sydney Valiquette who got the puck to Lalonde as she streaked across the blue line. Lalonde hammered a shot through Goergen to score the game-winner and give the Roos the 2-1 OT victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Lalonde's goal was her eighth of the year, putting her second on team in scoring.
- Valiquette's assist gives her eight points on the season, tying her for third on the team with Kyra O'Keefe.
