Six Straight: Women’s Basketball Stays Unbeaten with Road Win at Alfred State

Alfred, NY – The SUNY Canton women's basketball team roared out to a double digit lead after the first quarter en route to a 73-43 road win at Alfred State on Saturday. The 6-0 start to the season is by far the Roos best in the D-III era and their best start as a program in at least the last 15 seasons.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Canton got off to a quick 18-8 lead midway through the first quarter and led 23-13 after 10 minutes of action. The Roos extended their lead to as many as 18 in the second stanza taking a 38-22 lead into intermission.
  • The Roos shot nearly 52% from the field in the opening half while holding Alfred State to 35% shooting.
  • Sierra Pabo led Canton with 10 first half points, while Natalie Bartle had eight. Taylor Benjamin paced the Pioneers with eight points.
  • Canton dominated the third quarter scoring 21 while holding the Pioneers to just four points as they held a 59-26 lead after 30 minutes cruising to the 73-43 victory.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Natalie Bartle led all players with 22 points shooting 8-for-16 from the field and 6-for-6 from the free throw line adding a team-high six rebounds. Sierra Pabo and Hope Aniceto supplied 12 points each with Aniceto knocking down four of her seven threes. Marijke Kroon chipped in eight points and four rebounds off the bench shooting a perfect 4-for-4 from the field.
  • Anna Merry was the lone Pioneer in double figures with 11, while Benjamin and Jaiden Williams posted nine points each.
  • Canton shot nearly 46% from the field while holding the Pioneers to 26% shooting. The Roos dominated points in the paint (30-12), bench points (19-5) and steals (8-0).
  • Ten different players scored a basket for the Roos.

The Roos are back in action on Tuesday when they visit Bryant & Stratton Albany at 5 p.m..
