Alvarez Stops 34 Shots as Roos Fall Just Short v. #3 Plattsburgh, 1-0

Plattsburgh, NY – Senior Sirena Alvarez had a monster performance stopping 34 of the 35 shots she faced but a second period goal proved to be the difference as No. 3 nationally-ranked Plattsburgh State earned a 1-0 Northeast Women's Hockey League (NEWHL) win v. SUNY Canton on Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
  • Plattsburgh owned a 14-1 shots advantage in the opening period but 14 saves from Alvarez kept things scoreless after 20 minutes of action.
  • Ciara St. Wall was finally able to solve Alvarez at 5:24 of the middle period when she scored with the skater advantage off passes from Taya Balfour and Kendall Wasik. The Cardinals outshot the Roos 11-5 in the second period take a 1-0 lead to second intermission.
  • Play was extremely even in the third period as each team posted 10 shots on goal. Canton pulled Alvarez for the extra skater with 1:16 remaining, but the Roos were unable to find the equalizer.
