HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Neither team found the back of the net in the opening period as Cortland held a slim 5-3 shots on goal advantage. The Roos penalty kill unit was able to kill off the lone infraction of the period.
  • The Roos opened the scoring at 4:57 of the middle period. McKinnon tipped the puck away from a Cortland skater as the puck got just outside of the Red Dragon offensive zone. Brycelan Sunday picked the puck up in the neutral zone and left it to Kosnaskie skating into the offensive zone on her right. Kosnaskie deked the goalie and placed a backhanded shot past Anna Hamid.
  • Canton doubled their lead at 9:47 on the power play. Iida Laitinen played the puck from the top of the right circle to Meaghan Best at the point. She found Kosnaskie above the left circle as her wrist shot beat Hamid top shelf just under the cross bar.
  • The Roos made it 3-0 at 17:59 scoring once again with the skater advantage. Meaghan Best played the puck from the high slot to Sunday below the left circle. She found McKinnon in the low slot and her initial shot was saved by Hamid, but McKinnon put home the rebound for the 3-0 lead.
  • Cortland held a 16-7 edge in shots in the second period but Sirena Alvarez stopped 16 second period shots as the Roos skated to second intermission on top 3-0.
  • The Red Dragons got one back at 8:16 of the third period when Amanda Gaffney scored on the power play on a one-timer from below the left circle. Grace Schnorr and Emily Kromer picked up assists on the play.
  • Cortland got within one at 13:25 when Mia Hlasnick scored off passes from Schnorr and Destiny Bautista.
  • Cortland pulled the goalie for the extra attacker with 1:18 remaining but Hannah Clement scored on an empty-netter with 34 seconds left to seal the win. Laitinen earned an assist off the faceoff win.
