Potsdam, NY – Sarah Riedel tied the game early in the first half, but three unanswered goals from host SUNY Potsdam helped lift the Bears past the SUNY Canton women's soccer team in a non-conference game on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Layla McKeiver got the Bears on the board first at the 16:29 mark of the opening half. McKeiver took a pass from Mackenzie Bowie in on a break and placed a low shot into the right corner past a charging Samantha Hayes.
- The Roos wasted no time responding just 31 seconds later off the ensuing kickoff. After the Potsdam keeper had trouble clearing the ball, Desiree Forde was in the right spot as she connected with Riedel who put the ball into the open net.
- Potsdam regained the lead in the 31st minute when Maeve Morrissey played a ball up the right side of the field. Sarah Emmi launched a long shot from well outside the box that was beautifully struck and went off the bottom of the crossbar and in.
- The Bears added a third goal six minutes later when Emily Metz placed a cross from the right side into the box. Makenna Crosson gathered the loose ball at the far, left post and put home the rebound as the hosts led 3-1 at intermission.
- Potsdam tacked on a fourth goal in the 72nd minute as Bowie took a corner from the left side and Morrissey redirected a header into the back of the net inside the left post.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The goal is the first of the season for Riedel and the seventh of her career for the senior from Webster, NY.
- Hayes made eight saves for the Roos in her season debut. Savannah Bowie turned aside three shots for the Bears.
- Morrissey paced Potsdam with a goal and assist, while Bowie added a pair of assists.
- The Bears held a 13-5 advantage in shots on goal and the upper hand in corner kicks, 13-1.

The Roos open North Atlantic Conference play on Saturday when they host SUNY Poly at 1 p.m.
