Canton, NY – Nick Shoemaker drove in three runs in the nightcap but the SUNY Canton baseball team dropped a pair of seven inning North Atlantic Conference (NAC) games to SUNY Cobleskill on Monday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

GAME 1 – BOX SCORE
- The visitors were able to take advantage of some early defensive miscues as they scored two runs each in the first and second innings to open up a 4-0 advantage.
- The Roos got one back in the bottom of the second when Dylan Allen scored Don Louis Rodriguez on a ground out.
- The Fighting Tigers continued to fire offensively adding one run each in the third, fourth and seventh innings and six in the fifth inning.
- Canton added another run in the sixth when Nathan Welch singled home Fermin Alvarez.
- Stephen Teja picked up the win for Cobleskill tossing 5.2 innings surrendering one earned run with eight strike outs.
- Jamere Griffin took the loss allowing five earned runs with two strike outs and two walks in 4.0 innings.
- Welch, Zach Miner, Anthony Bocchino and Kevin Kapfer finished with hits for the Roos.
- Nick Thomas and Christopher Kordziel led the Tigers with three hits each while four players drove in two runs each.

GAME 2 – BOX SCORE
- Cobleskill got on the board first with two runs in the opening inning and one more in the second.
- Canton responded in the bottom of the second when Shoemaker was first pitch swinging as he laced a two out double in the gap to left center to score Kapfer and Rodriguez.
- The Tigers extended the lead to 4-2 with one run in the top of the fourth but Canton added one of their own in the bottom of the frame.
- With one out Shoemaker came through once again as he singled down the left field line to bring home Jesus Garcia.
- The visitors added what proved to be a crucial insurance run in the top half of the seventh.
- Ty Reed led off the bottom of the seventh with a single through the left side. Jesse Iacovetta moved Reed over to second with a bunt towards first base. Reed advanced to third on a Miner ground out to the right side.
- Rodriguez trimmed the deficit to one with a double in the gap to left center to score Reed. With the tying run in scoring position Allen drove the ball well, but it went right to the left fielder to end the rally.
- Chris Leavey earned the win for Cobleskill tossing four innings giving up two earned runs. Ethan Straub pitched the final inning picking up the save.
- Miner took the loss allowing four earned runs with two strike outs and seven walks in 4.0 innings. Luis Torres-Rivera threw three innings in relief giving up one earned run with three strike outs and two walks.
- Rodriguez went 2-for-2 with two walks, a run and RBI at the plate, while Shoemaker was 2-for-3 driving in three runs.

The baseball team is next scheduled to play on Wednesday when it hosts SUNY Poly for a doubleheader at 1 p.m.
