Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton Esports teams are off to a strong start to the Spring 2021 semester posting a 38-16 record in the opening three weeks of play.

ECAC/League of Legends Play
The Roos have completed three weeks of competition in Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) play in the titles of Overwatch, Rocket League, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (SSBU), Valorant and League of Legends.  So far SUNY Canton sits at 18-7 across five titles in ECAC competition.
 
The SUNY Canton SSBU (A) team is undefeated at 3-0, just one of five remaining unbeatens in SSBU play who have played three matches. The Roos Overwatch varsity and junior varsity teams, the Rocket League team, the Valorant squad, and SSBU (B) and (C) are all 2-1 on the young season.
 
Meanwhile, the League of Legends (A) team is 3-1 in ECAC matches and 2-1 in the Spring league. SUNY Canton is also sporting a League of Legends (B) team in the Spring league this semester which has started the season 1-2 thus far.
 
SUNY Play
SUNY Canton, who started the State University of New York (SUNY) Esports league during the Fall 2020 semester, will feature teams in SSBU, Valorant, Rocket League, Call of Duty: MW Gunfight, Rainbow Six Siege and Overwatch this semester. Across six titles in SUNY play the Roos have combined for an 17-7 record.
 
SUNY Canton has 17 teams competing in SSBU this semester and the squads are off to a 12-5 start after the opening week. Competition in SSBU play was highlighted by the © team earning a 3-0 sweep v. the University at Albany.
 
Rocket League opened its season with a 3-0 win v. Herkimer Community College. The SUNY Canton Overwatch varsity and junior varsity teams both secured victories in their opening matches.
 
SUNY Canton's Valorant team earned a 2-1 win v. Plattsburgh State in its opening match of the season. Meanwhile, the Rainbow Six squad recorded a 2-0 victory against the University at Buffalo.
 
For the first time SUNY Canton's COD: MW Gunfight team took part in a conference match last week as they earned a 2-0 sweep of Clinton Community College.
 
"We had an absolute dominant showing and our Call of Duty team looks to be highly motivated, positive, and competitive! They are a great group of guys who I look forward to coaching," Esports Coordinator Charles Murray said.
 
Murray got his own competitive start in gaming with Call of Duty and notes how an effective strategy can last the test of time.
 
"A lot of the same strategies used back in the day still can be employed effectively now. It's great to see the students learning so fast!"
