Houghton Uses Strong Fourth Quarter to Earn Comeback Win v. Women’s Basketball

Houghton, NY – SUNY Canton held a 16 point first half lead but host Houghton College stormed back outscoring the Roos by 19 after intermission to earn a 49-41 win v. the SUNY Canton women's basketball team on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • SUNY Canton roared out to a 12-0 lead early on and led by double digits after the first quarter. The Roos opened their largest advantage of the game at 16 (20-4) after a Shannyn St. Andrews bucket with 5:51 left in the opening half.
  • The Highlanders closed the half on a 6-1 run to get within 21-10 at intermission.
  • Houghton cut the deficit to nine points at 34-25 after three quarters of play as they kept within striking distance.
  • It was the fourth quarter that proved to be the difference as Houghton struck for 24 points, while holding Canton to just seven in the stanza.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Shanelle Borth led the Roos with a double-double on 10 points and 10 rebounds to go with four steals. It was her second double-double of the season.
  • Chelsey Raven chipped in eight points and seven rebounds, while Mya Hodge added six points and eight rebounds.
  • Carlee Miller paced Houghton with 12 points, while Alexis Klohr added 11 and Taylor Johnson totaled nine points.
  • Canton controlled the boards 46-32 but 20 turnovers led to 17 points for Houghton. The Highlanders also had the advantage in points in the paint (32-24) and bench points (18-8).

The women's basketball returns to North Atlantic Conference action on Friday when they visit SUNY Cobleskill at 7:30 p.m.
