HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Just more than seven minutes into the match SUNY Canton was whistled for a hand ball by a defender on the edge of the box. Luke Rapaport would take the ensuing penalty kick but his shot was wide left to keep the game scoreless early.
  • The Cardinals struck first in the 19th minute. Yusuke Tanda picked out a quick pass up the middle to Cameron Richards. Richards turned and played a through ball to Dylan Shalvey in on the break. Shalvey one-timed a left-footed shot into the right corner of net past a charging Owen Kwong.
  • Plattsburgh held an 8-0 shots on goal and 4-0 corners edge taking a 1-0 lead into intermission.
  • Ellis Sanchez registered a shot on goal six minutes into the second half for the Roos, but Cardinal keeper Teddy Healy made the save.
  • The Canton goalkeepers were solid in both halves as Kwong played the opening 45 minutes and Meneses played the final 45 to keep it a one goal game until late.
  • Plattsburgh's John Hayes single handedly beat the Canton defense in the 83rd minute dribbling through three Roo defenders before placing a right-footed shot into the left corner past Meneses to seal the win.
