Women’s Soccer Celebrates Senior Day, Drops 1-0 Decision to Cazenovia in Double OT

Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton women's soccer team celebrated its six seniors on Senior Day but visiting Cazenovia College came away with a 1-0 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) win in double overtime on Saturday.

The Roos recognized McKenna Bourgeois, Brooke Rossignol, Rachel Merica, Alexandria Mikula, Sarah Riedel and Kelsey Pinkerton in a ceremony following the match.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Neither team found the back of the net in the opening 90 minutes of the game as the teams would need extra time to decide the contest.
  • SUNY Canton keeper made two saves in the first half and four over the second 45 minutes to keep the game tied heading to OT.
  • Williams stopped the lone shot on goal in the first overtime period before Jaylah Cossin provided the heroics for Cazenovia.
  • Cossin scored off a corner kick 1 minute and 27 seconds into the second overtime to lift the Wildcats to the victory.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Williams finished with seven saves in the loss for the Roos, while Meghan McCarthy was not required to make a save in the win for Caz.
  • Cossin led the Wildcats with four shots on goal.
 
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Roos are back in action on Wednesday when they host St. Lawrence in a non-league game at 4 p.m.
