Rutland, VT – Sirena Alvarez posted her first collegiate shutout and
Alexa Parigi and
Lily Cullen scored goals to lift the SUNY Canton women's hockey team to a 2-0 victory v. Northland College in the championship game of the Castleton Invitational on Sunday evening.
Alvarez was named the Tournament MVP after stopping 41 of the 42 shots she faced over the weekend. After Parigi recorded both game-winning goals and
Jordan Emerson registered a goal and two assists on the weekend they joined Alvarez on the All-Tournament Team.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Roos jumped out to a 1-0 lead at the 5:24 mark of the opening period when Parigi buried her second goal in as many days. Meaghen Best and Emerson picked up helpers on the tally. Canton led 1-0 at first intermission behind eight first period stops from Alvarez.
- The rookie from Finland made seven more saves in the second stanza as neither team found the back of the net.
- Lily Cullen posted her first goal of the season and sixth of her career at 3:55 of the third period on an unassisted insurance marker to seal the win.
- Alvarez stopped all 20 shots she faced in the win, while Gabby Suhr made 23 saves for the Jills.
- The teams combined to kill off all seven penalties committed in the contest.
