Thiam Posts Four Save Shutout as Roos Tie in Double OT v. SUNY Poly

Canton, NY – Mouhammed Thiam stopped four shots to record a shutout as the SUNY Canton men's soccer team earned a 0-0 double overtime tie v. visiting SUNY Poly in non-conference action on Saturday.

SUNY Poly (1-0-1) had a great early chance off a set piece but the goal was nullified by an offside. Twenty minutes in the Roos (1-2-1) countered with a beautiful set piece just outside the 18 as Kevin Velasquez delivered a ball to the far post as Dustin Brown got a foot on it but it sailed just high.

Neither team could find the back of the net in regulation or the first overtime as the teams played to a second OT. Three minutes into the second extra session Edward Malinoski, Jr. delivered a beautiful ball to the center of the box that just missed the head of Evran Akman.

Thiam made four saves for the Roos, while Nathan Laughlin made two stops for the Wildcats.
