Women’s Hockey Opens Season v. Bengals

CHS BOX SCORE

Canton, NY –
Brooke Susac made 19 saves but visiting Buffalo State scored one goal in each period to earn a 3-0 win in the season-opener for both teams on Friday afternoon in non-league action.

Buffalo State got on the board first less than five minutes in when Lila Toczek put home her rebound on a loose scrum in front after Emma Ruggiero tipped the puck to her at the near post. The Roos held a 10-5 shots on goal edge in the opening period but the Bengals took the 1-0 lead into first intermission.

The Bengals outshot the Roos 12-5 in the middle period and that paid off when they converted short-handed with 2:15 left in the frame. Olivia Smith played a beautiful pass from behind the Roos net to Gianna Brigante out in front who finished past Susac.

The visitors extended the lead to three at 6:12 of the third period when a loose puck deflected to Ruggiero at the Bengals defensive blue line. She skated in on the breakaway and finished over the blocker of Susac.

Susac made 19 saves in the loss for the Roos, while Bri Gawronski turned aside 25 shots in the shutout.

These two teams will have a rematch on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Roos House. Stay up to date with the latest news directly from the SUNY Canton Athletics department by "liking" us on Facebook and "following" our TwitterInstagram and YouTube accounts.
