Smith Scores Twice as Men’s Soccer Shuts out Delhi, 3-0

Canton, NY – Kyle Smith scored twice as the SUNY Canton men's soccer team netted three goals in an eight-minute span to earn a 3-0 win v. visiting SUNY Delhi on Sunday afternoon.

The Roos (3-3-1), winners of three of their last four, held an 8-2 shots advantage in the opening half but the teams played to a scoreless tie at intermission.

SUNY Canton got their barrage of scoring started in the 57th minute when Edward Malinoski, Jr. beat multiple defenders down the right sideline and played a beautiful ball into the center of the box on to a cutting Smith. The junior Evans Mills native delivered a beautiful header into the right corner of the net for the early lead.

Less than a minute later the Roos doubled their lead when Josh Geller picked up a ball after Malinoski was tripped up and advantage was played. Geller beat multiple defenders dribbling left to right and fired a shot from well outside the box across his body off the left post and in.

Seven minutes later Smith added an insurance marker when he played a pass across the box that deflected off a defender and between the keeper's legs for the 3-0 final.

Mouhammed Thiam made three saves in his third clean sheet of the season, while Macros Andrino turned aside six shots for the Broncos (2-3-0).

The men's soccer team returns to the pitch on Tuesday when they visit Clarkson University at 6 p.m. Stay up to date with the latest news directly from the SUNY Canton Athletics department by "liking" us on Facebook and "following" our TwitterInstagram and YouTube accounts.
