Akron, OH – The SUNY Canton softball team closed out its record-setting season with a school record 24 wins falling by a score of 7-3 to Judson College in the fifth-place game of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Nationals on Wednesday afternoon.
Judson scored four runs in the first and added three more in the second and third innings.
Cassidy Yetter and
Rhea Coad strung together back-to-back two out hits in the third but Judson led 7-0 after three.
Courtney Hyland got the Roos on the board in the fourth with a solo shot to left field, the Roos first homer of the national tournament. Canton added a pair of runs with a two-out rally in the sixth.
Lizzie Bimonte singled down the right field line scoring
Brittany Miner and
Stefanie Miller.
The Roos looked to rally late but were unable to overcome the early deficit.
Jordan Podkladek gave up four earned runs and struck out five batters in her final game for the Roos. SUNY Canton loses Podkladek and Coad to graduation.
