Morrisville, NY – The SUNY Canton softball team earned a sweep against host Morrisville State with 9-6 and 5-2 victories on Sunday afternoon. The Roos improve to 6-3 on the season, while the Mustangs drop to 0-10.
Game 1 – Box Score
SUNY Canton used a seven run second inning and added two runs in the fifth to earn the 9-6 win in the opener.
Stefanie Miller homered to left field to start the inning and
Rachel Thornhill followed with an RBI single to score
Desiree Pryce.
Kaleigh Foran plated
Valerie Clark on an RBI base hit and
Courtney Hyland plated
Alicia Evans on an RBI double. Miller closed the scoring in the second with an RBI double to center as the Roos batted around.
Morrisville added two runs in the third and one in the fourth to get within 7-3 but the Roos responded with two runs in the fifth.
Brittany Staltare doubled home Thornhill and
Kaleigh Foran plated Staltare on a sacrifice fly to left.
Jordan Podkladek earned her fourth win of the season scattering nine hits and six earned runs with three strike outs over the complete game victory.
Game 2 – Box Score
The Roos scored four runs over the first two innings and that was all Canton needed in a 5-2 win. Foran and Hyland produced RBI doubles in the first innings, while Evans scored Hyland on an RBI base hit. Pryce walked home a run in the second and Thornhill concluded the scoring with an RBI infield single in the fifth.
Annie Sharlow earned her first victory of the season tossing five innings giving up four hits and two earned runs. Podkladek earned her first save of the season giving up just a single hit without a run over the final two innings.
