Women’s Hockey Earns Sweep v. Becker with 5-1 Sunday Win

CHS BOX SCORE

Canton, NY – Tess Adams recorded two goals and two assists and Jessica Pele scored a pair of goals to help the SUNY Canton women's hockey team earn a weekend sweep against Becker College with a 5-1 win on Sunday.

The Roos improve to 10-10-1 overall and 4-4-0 in Colonial Hockey Conference play, while the Hawks drop to 7-13-2 and 1-9-0. The 10 wins by SUNY Canton sets a new program win mark for victories in a season.

The Roos got on the board first when Adams fired a shot from the right circle that was initially saved by Madison Rigsby but Kaylah Menchaca put home the rebound at the far post over the blocker. Canton doubled its lead at 18:26 when Margret Troiano hit Adams with a pass behind the net as she skated out in front and went top shelf over the shoulder of Rigsby.

Becker responded just 13 seconds later as Claudia Gee took a shot that went off the back boards and rebounded right to Bailey Coons who put it home past the stick of Brooke Susac. In what was a flurry of goals late in the period the Roos regained the two-goal advantage with 11.6 seconds remaining as Tessa Dobson fought off a Becker defender and hit Emily Dolphin with a pass at the point. She found Pele at the high slot who put the puck past Rigsby for her eighth goal of the season.

The Roos took a 4-1 lead at 14:54 of the second as Adams made a great play using her stick to deflect the puck as it went right to Pele. She went top shelf to extend the Roos lead. Canton tacked on a third period goal Adams scored his second of the night off top shelf off passes from Noelle Niemiec and Margret Troiano.

Susac made 18 saves in her 10th win of the season, while Rigsby and Julia Johnson combined to make 42 saves for Becker.

The women's hockey team hits the road for a weekend series at Johnson & Wales University on Friday and Saturday. Puck drops are scheduled for 5:55 and 5:35 p.m., respectively.
