Pele and Adams Score as Roos Earn 2-2 Tie v. Stevenson on Senior Day

CHS BOX SCORE

Canton, NY – Jessica Pele and Tess Adams each scored as the SUNY Canton women's hockey team earned a 2-2 overtime tie against visiting Stevenson University on Saturday.

The Roos improve to 13-10-2 overall and 7-4-1 in conference play, while the Mustangs move to 13-10-1 overall and 7-4-1 in conference competition. With the conclusion of the regular season the two teams will tie for third place in the CHC standings.

Official pairings and seeds will be released from the conference office on Sunday, but with the top four finish the Roos are guaranteed to host a quarterfinal playoff game next Saturday at the Roos House with the time to be announced.

The Roos opened the scoring at 10:15 of the first when Emily Dolphin fed the puck up the far half-boards to Jessica Pele. She fired a shot under the left arm of Caitie Darosa for her 10th goal of the season. Stevenson held a slim 10-7 shots advantage but the Roos took a 1-0 lead to the locker room behind 10 saves from Brooke Susac.

Stevenson evened the score at the 11:34 mark of the second. Chelsea Blackburn and Jordan Pirrello executed a nice give-and-go through the neutral zone as Pirrello hit Blackburn in the high slot who flipped a shot over the glove of Susac to knot the game at one. The teams played to a 1-1 tie after 40 minutes of play.

The Roos regained the lead midway through the third period when Kaylah Menchaca's initial shot was saved but Tessa Adams put home the rebound top shelf near post. Noelle NIemiec was also credited with an assist as she started the breakout for the 2-on-1.

The Mustangs once again knotted the score when Rachel Grewette played the puck behind the net to Natlie Rosenda at the point. She hit Monica Pozuc below the right circle who turned and snuck a shot just inside the right post to tie the game at 2-2.

Despite the Roos having a power play for the final 1:46 of overtime Stevenson held a slim 3-2 shots edge in the extra session but the goalies combined to stop all five shots.

Susac had a strong game in net turning aside 33 shots, while Darosa made 18 stops.

The Roos recognized their four graduating players in seniors Lora Ardoin, Rhea Coad and Sydney Kinder as well as junior Margret Troiano in a pre-game ceremony.
