Potsdam, NY – Paige Whitton scored a career-high 13 points as the Roos outscored host SUNY Potsdam after halftime but a strong start lifted the hosts to a 74-62 victory on Wednesday evening.
The Bears (3-19) jumped out to a 21-5 lead with less than a minute to play in the opening quarter but the Roos (5-18) responded with the final four points to get within 21-9 after one. Potsdam extended its lead to as many as 20 in the second quarter before taking a 44-25 lead into intermission.
SUNY Canton responded with a strong third quarter outscoring the Bears 24-20. After Potsdam jumped out to a 52-27 lead the Roos outscored the hosts 22-12 the remainder of the period including ending the stanza on a 7-0 run to trim the deficit to 64-49 after three.
The Roos cut the deficit to 11 in the fourth quarter but the Bears held on for the 74-62 victory.
Saltus paced the Roos with 23 points, eight rebounds and six assists, while Whitton added a career-high 13 points to go with six steals and five rebounds on 6-for-11 shooting.
Jenifer Morgan-Aubin chipped in 12 points and six rebounds, while
Randi Conway posted seven points and eight rebounds.
Tylar Barbato also had a strong outing with seven rebounds and six assists.
Drew Dufrane led all players with 24 points shooting 6-for-10 from behind the arc. Abbey Smith (14) and Meghan Driscoll (11) also scored in double figures for the Bears
