Sanchez Scores Twice but Roos Fall in Double Overtime in ACAA Title Game

Phoenixville, PA – Ellis Sanchez scored twice but the SUNY Canton men's soccer team fell 4-3 in double overtime to Pine Manor College in the American Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) championship game on Sunday.

Demba Ba, Kyle Smith, Ellis Sanchez and Mouhammed Thiam were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Noah Nixon scored off a Diego Herrara free kick in the 113th minute for the walk-off victory for the Gators (12-5-1).

Jose Corrales opened the scoring for Pine Manor in the 32nd minute as the Gators took a 1-0 lead into intermission.

Esteban Avila doubled the Gator lead on a header off a Diego Herrara free kick 10 minutes out of halftime.

Sanchez leveled the score tallying a pair of goals in less than a five-minute span. Kyle Smith assisted the first goal.

Corrales regained the 3-2 lead off a shot from 25 yards out in the 72nd minute and it looked like the Gators would earn the win in regulation but with just 18 seconds remaining Demba Ba sent the game into extra time on his third goal of the season.

Mouhammed Thiam made five saves in net for the Roos (8-9-2), while Pena turned aside four shots for Pine Manor.

This closes out the 2017 season for the men's soccer team. Stay up to date with the latest news directly from the SUNY Canton Athletics department by "liking" us on Facebook and "following" our Twitter, Instagram and YouTube accounts.
