Malinoski’s OT Game-Winner Carries Roos Past Hornets, 1-0

Canton, NY – Edward Malinoski, Jr. scored the game-winning goal off a beautiful crossing pass from Josh Geller 2 minutes, 47 seconds into overtime as the SUNY Canton men's soccer team earned a 1-0 win against visiting Lyndon State on Wednesday evening.

The Roos (6-6-1) had an initial chance just over a minute in as a Geller direct kick bended late but sailed just over the top of the crossbar. Neither team generated many quality scoring chances in the opening half as Connor Campbell stopped the only shot he faced as the teams took a scoreless tie into intermission.

Just five minutes into the second half Hector Martinez ripped a beautiful shot from way out that deflected off the left post. The Roos had a quality chance with 20 minutes remaining as Kyle Smith played the ball in from the left as Jacob Jones one touched it to Erdous Lebron whose volley went just high.

Neither team could find the back of the net in regulation as the teams would play to overtime.

SUNY Canton broke through 2:47 into overtime as Geller found Malinoski for his second goal of the season.

Campbell made two saves in his second straight clean sheet for the Roos, while Matt LaClair made three saves for Lyndon State (5-6-1).

The men's soccer team returns to the pitch on Saturday when it visits Castleton University at 2:30 p.m. Stay up to date with the latest news directly from the SUNY Canton Athletics department by "liking" us on Facebook and "following" our TwitterInstagram and YouTube accounts.
