Adams Nets Ninth of Year v. Spartans

Canton, NY – Tess Adams scored her team-leading ninth goal of the season but host Castleton University erupted for five goals in the third period on its way to a 7-1 victory in the consolation game of the Rutland Herald Invitational on Sunday.

Chanel Tvergyak opened the score for the Spartans (4-8-0) at 3:59 of the first period as the hosts took a 1-0 lead into first intermission.

The Roos (6-6-0) evened the score at 9:16 of the middle period on Adams second goal in as many days on a tic-tac-toe play in the Spartans zone. Jessica Pele controlled possession and sent a pass to Tessa Dobson at near circle. She found Adams open in the slot for a point blank wrist shot past Castleton goaltender Rylie Wills.

The Spartans took the lead for good six minutes later when Hannah Rose found the back of the net off passes from Ashley Pekley and Aimee Briand. Five different players scored for Castleton as they dominated shots 19-6.

Illie Berisha made 25 saves over the first 45:49, while Brooke Susac turned aside 10 shots in 13:59 of action. Wills made 24 saves for the hosts.

Berisha was named to the All-Tournament Team for her performance throughout the weekend.
