Canton, NY – Jenifer Morgan-Aubin finished with19 points but the women's basketball team was unable to overcome an early deficit as visiting Morrisville State shot 63 percent from the field in a 99-53 win on Saturday.
Morrisville (7-3) jumped out to a quick 12-0 lead just 3:25 in but Canton (4-13) got within 16-7 after a Morgan-Aubin old-fashioned three-point play with 2:37 left in the first. The Mustangs closed the quarter on a 10-0 run to take a 26-7 lead after one.
The visitors opened the second quarter on a 15-0 run over the first 5:46 forcing a Roos timeout. Morrisville took a 54-17 lead into intermission. Morgan-Aubin paced the Roos with seven points in the first half, while
Randi Conway and
Taylor Saltus recorded four each. Charlotte Walker and Haley Kilmartin posted 12 and 10 points, respectively, for the Mustangs.
Morrisville continued to shoot well from the field in the second half although the hosts outscored the Mustangs 22-21 in the fourth quarter.
Morgan-Aubin paced the Roos with 19 points on 8-for-9 shooting, while Conway added 14 points. Saltus chipped in eight points, 12 assists and six rebounds, while Sade Rogers finished with eight points going 2-for-3 from deep.
Walker led all players with 35 points as she was remarkably accurate hitting 17 of her 19 field goal attempts. Tori Rockefeller recorded 19 points and Kilmartin and Jordan Anderson posted 10 points apiece.
