Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton women's hockey team jumped out to a fast start with three goals in the opening period and never looked back in a 5-3 Colonial Hockey Conference victory against visiting Johnson & Wales University on Saturday afternoon in the Roos House.
Jessica Pele (Estevan, SK) slotted her fourth goal of the season just 1:55 into the contest off the setup from
Rhea Coad (Wheatfield, NY) to gain the early momentum for the Roos (7-15-1, 7-4-1 CHC).
Margret Troiano (Morristown, NY) netted her first goal of the season six seconds after a 4-on-4 ended to give the Roos just their third shorthanded goal of the season.
Sydney Kinder (New York, NY) earned an assist on the play. Coad lit the lamp for the sixth time of the season at 14:34 off a pass from
Reagan Lynn (Chicago, IL) as the Roos led 3-0 after one.
The Wildcats (4-19-0, 4-8-0 CHC) got within two 2:07 into the middle period when Alexis Harle got the puck past Roo goaltender
Rebecca DiNardo (Ottawa, ON). Kathy Ensor and Victoria Perez assisted the score.
Pele was the recipient of a
Logan Conger (Tyendinaga, ON) pass six minutes later as she buried her second goal of the game, which proved to be the eventual game-winner. Coad extended SUNY Canton's lead to four at the 13:48 mark beating Wildcat goalie Kami Weiner for the second time on the day.
Summer Britton added a power play goal at 18:04 of the second and Tamara Bowden scored unassisted with 5:29 remaining in the third for the 5-3 final.
DiNardo stopped 18 shots in her sixth win of the season, while Weiner took the loss for Johnson and Wales turning aside 38 shots.
