CHS BOX SCORE
Canton, NY – Tess Adams (Calgary, AB) posted her fourth collegiate hat trick and scored the game-winning goal with 78 seconds remaining to lift the SUNY Canton women's hockey team to a 3-2 victory against SUNY Cortland on Tuesday in the Roos House.
The win keeps the Roos perfect on home ice this season at 4-0 as they improve to 6-4-0 overall. Cortland drops to 0-7-0 on the season.
Canton held a 10-4 advantage in shots in the opening period but 10 saves from Rachael Farmer kept the game scoreless after one.
The Roos broke through when Adams netted her first of the night and fifth of the season at 10:08 of the second period. She added her second of the night with just 43 seconds remaining to give the hosts a 2-0 lead heading to the third period.
Cortland stormed back with a pair of goals off the stick of Olivia Monzel one minute and 29 seconds apart to tie the game at two apiece. Monzel scored her first of the night and third of the season at 10:09 of the third and the Roos were whistled for a roughing penalty right after the goal. With just 21 seconds left on the skater advantage Monzel made Canton pay tying the game off a pass from Richelle Skarbowski.
That set up Adams for the heroics with 1:18 remaining as she sent the Roos to their fourth straight victory at home to open the season.
Brooke Susac (Bowmanville, ON) made 20 saves on the night for the Roos, while Farmer turned aside 23 shots for Cortland. The Red Dragons were 1-for-5 with the skater advantage, while Canton went 0-for-3 on the power play.
This closes out the 2016 portion of the schedule for the women's hockey team. They return to action on January 7, 2017 when they take on Holy Cross in the Castleton Tournament at 7 p.m. Stay up to date with the latest news directly from the SUNY Canton Athletics department by "liking" us on
