Scarborough, ME – Five different players found the back of the net paced by a goal and assist each from
Edward Malinoski, Jr. (Evans Mills, NY),
Maurizio Paniconi (Carolina, Puerto Rico) and
Austin Brault (Peru, NY) as the SUNY Canton men's soccer team defeated the University of Maine-Preque Isle 5-0 on Sunday.
The Roos close out the season 7-12-1 with the victory in the third place match of the American Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) Tournament on Sunday. UMPI closes out its season 4-13-1 overall.
SUNY Canton controlled possession early on and that paid off in the 17th minute when Malinoski led Brault with a crossing pass as the sophomore scored his first collegiate goal. Minutes later Paniconi set up Malinoski for his team-leading eighth goal of the season.
Paniconi would tally a goal of his own off the ensuing kickoff as just 14 seconds later he netted his second of the season. The Roos continued the offense as just 64 seconds later
Kingsley Owusu (Accra, Ghana) set up
Nick Magliano's (Farmingville, NY) first goal of the season. SUNY Canton took a 4-0 lead into intermission.
Brault set up
Erdous Lebron's (San Juan, Puerto Rico) first goal of the season in the 80th minute leading to the 5-0 final.
Austin Lamay (Malone, NY) turned aside five shots in the shutout, while AJ Dolley turned aside eight shots for the Owls.
