Laroche Nets Game-Winner as Roos Earn 61-59 Win v. Wolfpack

Canton, NY – Sophomore Tatiana Laroche (Elmont, NY) made a strong drive to the basket through traffic to score with 1:05 remaining which lifted the SUNY Canton women's basketball team to a 61-59 victory against visiting Keuka College on Wednesday evening in the Roos House.

The teams traded the lead back-and-forth early as SUNY Canton (6-11) took a 16-14 lead after the first quarter. The Roos controlled play in the second quarter putting up 23 points to take a double digit lead at 39-29 into intermission.
Brianna Sayer (Hermon, NY) and Karyss Terrance (Hogansburg, NY) led the offense with 12 and 10 points, respectively in the opening half. Katie Stuart and Mackenzie Cole posted 10 points each for the Wolfpack (3-12).

The Roos shot 58 percent from the field in the opening half and were remarkably accurate from distance hitting six of their eight attempts (75 percent).

Keuka outscored SUNY Canton 18-11 to get within just three points after Stuart made a layup with six minutes remaining in the period. The Roos held a 50-47 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.

The teams traded the lead throughout the fourth quarter and the visitors took a two point advantage at 59-57 with 2:34 remaining after Megan Cheasman converted a basket inside on the fast break. SUNY Canton responded just 16 seconds later when Logan Tallman (Heuvelton, NY) hit Terrance with a pass inside to knot the game at 59. That set up Laroche's game-winning basket with 1:05 remaining.

With 48 seconds remaining Terrance picked off a Lauren Anten pass and the Roos milked the clock which resulted in a shot clock violation with 17 seconds remaining. Anten would miss a three-pointer with four seconds to play and the Wolfpack were unable to get off a last second shot.

Sayer led all players with 20 points to go with six rebounds and four assists on 7-for-10 shooting from the field and a 4-for-5 mark from long distance. Terrance added 15 points and seven boards, while Caselynn Fulton (Saint Cloud, MN) chipped in nine points. Laroche added eight in the scoring column on 4-for-7 shooting. Stuart paced the Wolfpack with 19 points, while Ogdsenburg's Mackenzie Cole tallied 10 points.
