Conger Scores Lone Goal in 4-1 Loss

CHS BOX SCORE

Canton, NY – Logan Conger (Tyendinaga, ON) scored her third goal of the season but visiting SUNY Potsdam scored three goals from their special teams units to earn a 4-1 victory against host SUNY Canton on Tuesday evening in the Roos House.

The Roos nearly took a 1-0 lead nine minutes in as Whitney Bernier (Newport, VT) clanged a shot off the right post with SUNY Canton on the penalty kill. Anna-Rose Bertin got the Bears on the board first at 17:19 of the opening period when she netted her third of the season on the power play. Jaci Morr and Katie Marsman assisted on the marker.

With Potsdam in the middle of killing a penalty Jordan Ott slipped the puck through the five-hole of Roo goaltender Rebecca DiNardo (Ottawa, ON) on the breakaway with just five seconds left on the clock in the first. Alison Greene earned a helper on the play as Potsdam led 2-0 after one.
Bertin slotted her second of the game just after a Bears power play ended at 6:36 of the middle period. Her shot deflected off a defender and just inside the near post past the glove of DiNardo. Midway through the frame the Roos got on the board when Bernier hit Logan Conger (Tyendinaga, ON) with a pass in the slot as she fired a shot through the five-hole of Abby Tardelli. Margret Troiano (Morristown, NY) also earned an assist on the play.

Potsdam extended the lead to 4-1 at 14:26 when Morr scored her first tally of the season with the skater advantage off passes from Greene and Ott. The Bears took the three goal advantage into second intermission.

The Roos pushed hard in the third period outshooting the Bears 17-9 over the final 20 minutes but neither team was able to get on the scoreboard. Tardelli stopped 31 shots in her sixth win of the season, while DiNardo turned aside 15 shots. Illie Berisha (Lake Ariel, PA) made 10 saves on 10 shots in relief.

The women's hockey team has this weekend off before hosting Endicott College for a weekend Colonial Hockey Conference series on January 29th and 30th. Puck drops are set for 4 p.m. and 2 p.m., respectively.
