Barriere Scores as Men’s Soccer Closes out Weekend vs. Houghton

Oswego, NY – Captain Jordan Barriere (Chazy, NY) scored his first goal of the season early in the second half to get the Roos within one but the SUNY Canton men's soccer team dropped a 4-1 decision to Houghton College in the consolation game of the Oswego State Tournament on Saturday.

The Highlanders (2-1) jumped out to an early lead as Jordan Mullen found the back of the net off a set-up from Nic Lowe 3:51 into the contest. Houghton made it 2-0 in the 34th minute as Ben Munkittrick was on the receiving end of a Ben Lawrence pass. The Highlanders led 2-0 at intermission.

Just 93 seconds into the second half the Roos seized a bit of momentum as Barriere buried his shot attempt. Houghton responded seven minutes later with an insurance marker off the foot of Mullen and Munkittrick later added his second tally of the game to silence a Roo comeback bid.
Austin Lamay (Malone, NY) turned aside 10 Highlander shot attempts on the day, while Jacob Dunnett was largely untested in the game surrendering one score without making a save.

The men's soccer team (0-3) will look to get in the win column on Friday when they visit The Sage Colleges for a 2 p.m. kickoff.
