Alfred, NY – The SUNY Canton baseball team swept host Alfred State College 3-1 and 9-5 on Saturday afternoon.
Game 1Chris Roenbeck (Plattsburgh, NY) doubled to right field to score
Seth Douglas (Reedsburg, WI) in the top of the fourth. The Roos would add two more runs in the fifth to spot the pitching staff a 3-0 lead.
Wilson Matos (Brooklyn, NY) reached on an error in the fifth to score
Chris Jones (Deerfield Beach, FL) and Douglas used a base hit to bring Matos across.
The Pioneers would bring across a run in the bottom half of the fifth but
John Mancini (Scotia, NY) came on to close the door throwing two innings of one hit ball to earn his first save of the season.
Travis Bigelow (Ottawa, ON) earned the win on the mound tossing five innings surrendering just four hits and one earned run.
Game 2The Roos jumped out to a quick start in the nightcap plating three in the top of the first on a Douglas three-run homer scoring Matos and
Christian Nazario-Cruz (Naguabo, Puerto Rico).
Alfred State scored four runs plating one in the second, two in the third and one in the fourth to take a 4-3 lead. SUNY Canton knotted the game at four in the top of the fifth with a solo shot from Matos.
The teams would take the 4-4 tie into extra innings as neither team could score a run in the sixth or seventh. The Roos came through with their biggest inning of the day scoring five runs in the eighth.
Vinny Bondinello (Egg Harbor, NJ) bunted home
Jesse Barton (Belle Glade, FL). Jones followed with a base hit to left plating Bondinello. Matos doubled home a pair of runs and Douglas rounded out the scoring with a single to score Matos.
Alfred State would bring one run across in the bottom of the inning Mancini closed out the game for the win.
Dom Deliberti (Staten Island, NY) earned the win throwing two innings of shutout ball to improve to 3-0 on the season.
