Roos Take Bears to OT in Season Finale on Senior Night

Maddy Hetman (Troy, NY) scored her first points of the season finishing with a goal and assist and the women's ice hockey team overcame a two-goal deficit to force overtime but fell 4-3 to SUNY Potsdam on Thursday evening in the Roos House. Jordan Ott would score the game-winner 92 seconds into overtime for the Bears.
 
SUNY Canton got on the board first at 5:59 of the first. Hetman fired a shot from the point and Lindsey Hall (Ancaster, ON) redirected the puck underneath the glove of Brianna Fiddler. Kjrstin Hoberg (Grand Forks, ND) was also credited with an assist on the play.
 
The Roos earned their first power play of the game at the 11:51 mark and nearly extended their lead to two. Sydney Kinder's (New York, NY) initial shot was turned aside by Fiddler but Margret Troiano (Morristown, NY) rang the rebound off the crossbar.
 
SUNY Potsdam knotted it at 1-1 on a shot from Izzy Fayerman from the left circle low stick side. Jordan Ott and Katie Marsman were credited with assists on the goal at the 15:44 mark. The teams headed to first intermission tied at one.
 
Roo goaltender Peyton Stafne (St. Louis Park, MN) made some impressive saves to keep the game tied through a majority of the middle period. After a defensive zone giveaway the Bears converted with just 45 seconds remaining in the frame. Anna-Rose Bertin picked the puck up in the slot and went bar-down to give Potsdam a 2-1 lead after two.
 
The Bears took a 3-1 lead 6:25 into the third when Emily Kriwox hit Sally Mooney with a break-out pass. Mooney skate in from left to right and just inside the right circle fired a shot across the face of goal that beat Stafne stick side.
 
Just 12 seconds later the Roos responded off the ensuing face-off. They skated into the zone 2-on-1 as Grace Lyon (Brasher Falls, NY) centered a pass from the left to Hetman. The sophomore buried it from the slot past the blocker of Fiddler.
 
SUNY Canton tied the game at 3-3 at the 10:40 mark as Steph Kushnir (Goshen, NY) played the puck in front to Troiano who lit the lamp for the sixth time of her rookie season. Stafne continued to have a strong performance and net making multiple point blank saves including stymying a 2-on-0 situation.
 
With 4:02 remaining after a pair of Roos penalties the Bears had an extended 39 seconds on 5-on-3. SUNY Canton came up huge behind the defense and Stafne to kill off both infractions.
 
The Bears scored 1:32 into overtime as Jordan Ott netted the game-winner off passes from Alison Green and Fayerman.
 
Stafne had a huge night in net for the Roos stopping 32 shots, while Fiddler made 31 stops for SUNY Potsdam. This closes out the 2014-15 season for both teams. Hetman had a tremendous night for the Roos tallying her first points of the season with a goal and assist.

Prior to tonight's contest the Roos honored their lone senior, Caty Darling. Darling is the first graduating senior of the three-year old women's ice hockey program.
