Canton, NY – Austin Lamay (Malone, NY) made a huge penalty kick save and Tyler Gallagher (Potsdam, NY) and Nick Escalante (Whittier, CA) both scored as the men's soccer team earned a 2-1 win against visiting Berkeley College on Saturday.
 
The visitors had the first golden scoring opportunity after the Roos were whistled for a questionable call in the box off a free kick. Lamay came up huge completely laying out diving to his right to make the save as the Roos cleared the rebound attempt.
 
SUNY Canton got on the board just 64 seconds later as Tyler Cook (Antwerp, NY) took the ball down the left end line and made a pretty cutback move finding Edward Malinoski, Jr. (Evans Mills, NY) in the box. He flicked the ball on to Gallagher who ripped a shot that ricocheted off a defender and into the goal for the early lead.
 
With just more than two minutes remaining in the first half Berkeley had a player sent off with their second yellow card. The Knights would be forced to play the remainder of the game with 10 men as the Roos led a physical first half of play 1-0 at intermission.
 
The Roos earned a free kick early in the 57th minute and SUNY Canton made it count. Hunter Mowery (Elizabethtown, NY) and Escalante both gathered near the ball about 20 yards out. Mowery ran and stepped over the ball as Escalante bent a shot from left to right scoring an important insurance marker in his first game back from injury.
 
SUNY Canton surrendered a set piece in the end of the 64th minute and the Knights got on the board. Kengo Sato ripped a shot over the wall from 20 yards out into upper right corner as Lamay had no chance on the beautiful strike.
