Kinder Nets First Collegiate Goal as Roos Open Weekend Set with Cougars

Canton, NY – Sydney Kinder (New York, NY) scored her first collegiate goal to tie the game but visiting Chatham University scored twice in the third period to earn the 3-1 victory on Friday.

Both teams skated to a scoreless first period as Rebecca DiNardo (Ottawa, ON) made 12 saves in the opening 20 minutes for the hosts. After controlling much of the second stanza the Cougars got on the board at the 19:30 mark as Marissa Janiga snuck the puck through the five-hole of DiNardo in a scrum out in front of net. Katrina Hawkins and Lyndsey Gallaway were credited with assists on the play.

The Roos knotted the game at 1-1 at the 5:02 mark of the third period as Kinder scored her first collegiate goal. She fired a shot from the point that made its way through traffic in front of net and slid through the five-hole of Megan Buchanan. Lora Ardoin (Houston, TX) was credited with an assist on the play.

Less than a minute later Chatham responded as McKenzie Haskins lit the lamp off a pass from Brittany Yoisten. With just over a minute remaining Erika Bronk added an insurance goal when she picked up a loose puck and beat the goaltender top shelf over the stick side.

DiNardo stopped 31 shots in net for the Roos, while Buchanan made 18 saves for the Cougars. Margret Troiano led all players with eight shots in the contest.
