Boston, MA – Krjstin Hoberg (Grand Forks, ND) and
Lindsey Hall (Ancaster, ON) both scored their first collegiate goals but a hat trick from Erika Martin gave Chatham University a 4-3 victory on Saturday afternoon in the consolation game of the 8th annual Codfish Bowl.
The Cougars scored a pair of goals off the stick of Martin in the second period with the latter coming at the 15:44 mark on the power play. Hoberg found the back of the net for the first time in a Roo uniform off a pass from
Abbey Diabo (Kahnawake, QUE) with 37 seconds left to get the Roos within 2-1 after two.
Martin once again extended the Cougar lead to two 2:37 into the final period. SUNY Canton showed tremendous resiliency battling back. Hall lit the lamp for her first goal at 6:28 of the frame. Diabo and
Sydney Kinder (New York, NY) were credited with assists on the play. Sophomore captain
Lora Ardoin (Houston, TX) knotted the game at three midway through the period off passes from Hall and
Grace Lyon (Brasher Falls, NY).
Marissa Janiga broke the tie for Chatham with 5:04 remaining in the contest on an unassisted marker, which proved to be the eventual game-winner. SUNY Canton outshot the Cougars 43-30 in the game but 40 big stops from Megan Buchannan earned Chatham the victory.
Rebecca DiNardo (Ottawa, ON) turned aside 26 shots for the Roos.
Ardoin &
Margret Troiano (Morristown, NY) combined to win 41 of 67 faceoffs on the afternoon. Ardoin, Troiano, Diabo, Lyon, Kinder and
Rhea Coad (Wheatfield, NY) all had at least five shots each in the game. The women's hockey team returns to its home ice on Tuesday when it hosts Utica College at 7:00 p.m. in the Roos House.
