Escalante & Anunziatta Lead Roos to 3-0 Win over Alfred State

Alfred, NY – The SUNY Canton men's soccer team took an early lead and cruised to a 3-0 victory against host Alfred State College on Friday.

Nick Escalante (Whittier, CA) got the scoring started just 10 minutes in when he received a pass from Ricardo Eugenio (Mamaroneck, NY) and fired a long shot over the head of Pioneer keeper Nickolas Weir to make it 1-0.

Seventeen minutes later Escalante played a cross into the middle of the box where Nick Magliano drilled a shot off the keeper and into the back of the net for his first collegiate goal. SUNY Canton led 2-0 at intermission.

The Roos added an insurance goal in the 63rd minute when Hunter Mowery (Elizabethtown, NY) took a corner kick that Escalante redirected into the goal for his fifth score of the season.

Patrick Anunziatta (Schenectady, NY) stopped six shots in his second consecutive shutout for the Roos. Weir turned aside five shots for Alfred State. The men's soccer team is back in action next Saturday when they travel to take on Berkeley College at 1:00 p.m.
