Canton, NY -- The SUNY Canton men's soccer team got off to a quick start and never looked back dictating play from start to finish earning a 2-0 victory against visiting Paul Smith's College Friday evening.
The Roos dominated play early controlling possession and the offensive scoring chances. Early on
Abdulai Jagana (Bronx, NY) challenged the keeper on a bending ball off a set piece from 19 yards out. SUNY Canton broke through midway through the half when
Nick Escalante (Whittier, CA) controlled the ball down the left sideline. He played a beautiful cross to a cutting
Devin Gruneisen (Potsdam, NY) who placed a running header into the right side netting past Paul Smith's charging keeper, Ryan Little.
With just less than 14 minutes left in the opening half
Hunter Mowery (Elizabethtown, NY) played
Josh Geller (Monroe, NY) up the right wing. Facing a difficult shooting angle Geller ripped a shot from 25 yards out beating Little into the left side netting.

ripping a shot from 25 yards out in a 2-0 Roos win.The Roos continued to generate many more chances in the second stanza as Geller beat the defense and narrowly missed a shot outside the left post. Escalante also drilled a pair of shots off the left upright.
SUNY Canton dictated the play throughout as they controlled the midfield and their defense held the Bobcat offense without a shot on goal in the game. With nine minutes remaining Paul Smith's took the ball into the offensive zone but a great tackle from
Jon Forte (Schenectady, NY) saved a golden opportunity for the Bobcats.
The Roos held a 34-1 advantage in shots and 13-0 shots on goal edge.
Austin Lamay (Malone, NY) earned the win in his first collegiate start without facing a shot. Meanwhile Little stopped 11 shots in the loss.
