Women’s Hockey Closes out Weekend vs. Hamilton

Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton women's ice hockey team struggled to find its offense falling to visiting Hamilton College 6-0 on Saturday afternoon.

Hamilton got on the board first nine minutes into the first period. Hannah Bartlett received the puck in the slot and made a nice deke from right to left and slipped the puck through the five hold of Roo goaltender Rebecca DiNardo (Ottawa, ON). The freshman stopped 13 shots in the opening period as the Continentals took the one-goal lead into intermission.

The visitors extended their lead to 4-0 with three scores in the middle period. At the 6:49 mark Mairead Carey made it 2-0 on a wrister from the point that took an in-between hop between the five hole of DiNardo. Four minutes later Jade Alvillar struck on a scrum out in front on the power play. Ianthe Lekometros extended Hamilton's lead at the 14:24 mark when she fired an initial shot from the slot that was saved by DiNardo. However, Lekometros collected the rebound and lifted a shot over the stick of the Roo goalie.

Sara Taffee and Steph DiPietro added third period tallies, the latter of which came with the skater advantage. The Continentals were 2-for-5 on the power play in the game, while the Roos were 0-for-5.

DiNardo stopped 31 shots for SUNY Canton, while Sarah Schuchardt turned aside nine shots for Hamilton. The women's hockey team returns to the ice Friday at 7:00 p.m. when it hosts Franklin Pierce University.
