Cree Nets Two as Women’s Soccer Earns Season-Opening Victory

Canton, NY – Karley Cree found the back of the net on two separate occasions as the SUNY Canton women's soccer team upended visiting Bay Path College, 4-0, Saturday afternoon to kick off the 2013 SUNY Canton Women's Soccer Tournament.

The Roos got on the board in the 19th minute when Jade Sayward (Willsboro, NY) played a pass to Melissa Campoverde (Forest Hills, NY) who ripped a shot just outside the 18 yard mark. SUNY Canton tallied another score just over a minute later when Alexandra Forsythe (Lakeland, NY) fed Katlyn Hart (Harrisville, NY) for the score.

The Roos dominated the opening 45 minutes outshooting the Wildcats 11-3 and taking a 2-0 edge into intermission.

The theme continued to be the same out of halftime break as the Kangaroos continued to apply pressure on the Bay Path defense. Cree broke through in the 52nd minute when she blasted a shot in the upper 90 from just outside the penalty box to open up a three-goal lead.

The hosts struck again six minutes later when Cree drilled a shot from 30 yards out that slipped through the hands of Wildcat goalkeeper Shianne Silvia.

Brittany Rotach stopped all three shots she faced in her first start as a Roo earning the shutout. Silvia made 10 saves for Bay Path. SUNY Canton outshot the visitors 22-5 in the contest.

The SUNY Canton women's soccer team returns to action Sunday when they square off with Wells College at 3:00 p.m.
