Three Third Period Scores Lead Roos Past Cougars

Box Score

Fox Chapel, PA – Three different Roos found the back of the net in the third period as the women's hockey team turned a 1-1 tie after two periods into a 4-1 win Saturday afternoon against host Chatham University. The win improves the Kangaroos to 2-2-2 on the season, while the loss drops the Cougars to 2-2-2.

Roo goaltender Shayna Dominique (Mistissini, QUE) had a huge day between the pipes as she stopped 37 of the 38 shots she faced including and astonishing 20 in the opening period to keep the game scoreless at the end of one.

Bernadette O'Connell (Buffalo, NY) got the scoring started 7:29 into the second period when she found the back of the net off passes from Jessica Kistabish (Pikogan, QUE) and Karley Cree (Hogansburg, NY). A Chatham score two minutes later leveled the game at one apiece after two.

After being outshot in the first and second periods it was the Roos who came up clutch in the third. SUNY Canton outshot Chatham 9-6 and one-third of the Roo shot attempts found the back of the net. Kistabish tallied her second marker of the season 6:08 into the third period. Cree fed Dana Morrison (Wemindji, QUE) for her first collegiate goal just over three minutes later to give the visitors a 3-1 lead and O'Connell added her second goal of the game on an empty net tally with seven seconds left in the contest.

Dominique made 37 saves in her second win of the season, while Megan Buchanan turned aside 18 shots for the Cougars. The women's hockey team is back in action Friday when it returns home to the Roos House for a 7:00 p.m. tilt with Buffalo State.
