Roos Unable to Convert Scoring Opportunities as Golden Knights Earn Win

Box Score

Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton women's soccer team had some quality scoring opportunities but were unable to overcome an early deficit falling 2-0 to visiting Clarkson University Tuesday evening at home. The win improves the Golden Knights to 4-8, while the Roos fall to 5-7 on the season.

Clarkson came out of the gates controlling play with two early corner kicks and it paid off early in the fifth minute when Dani Felty fed Lauren Flynn who placed the ball into the lower right corner past Roo keeper Brittany Rotach (Brasher Falls, NY) for the 1-0 lead.

The Golden Knights would add a second score in the 18th minute when Felty set up the offense once again. She found Andrea Riedman cutting and delivered a short pass that was fired into the lower left corner of the net.

The Roos had a glorious opportunity to get within one in the 39th minute when Karley Cree (Hogansburg, NY) took a corner kick and found a cutting Melissa Campoverde (Forest Hills, NY) who struck a header that hit the right post and bounced away. Clarkson took a 2-0 lead into intermission.

SUNY Canton played a much more even contest in the second 45 minutes placing three shots on goal and narrowly missing another. Nine minutes into the second half Jade Sayward (Willsboro, NY) stole the ball near midfield and took the ball into the offensive end one-on-one with Golden Knight Keeper Steph Lynch but missed wide of the right post.

In the 78th minute the Roos had another golden opportunity to get within one when Katlyn Hart (Harrisville, NY) struck a beautiful ball into the upper 90 but Lynch sprawled out to make the diving save. Hart led SUNY Canton with two shots on goal in the contest, while Franchesca Trombley (Dekalb Junction, NY) and Cree also challenged the opposing keeper.

Rotach stopped six shots in goal for the Roos, while Lynch made four saves for Clarkson. The women's soccer team has a quick turnaround as they are back in action tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. when they host Johnson State College.
