Roos Rally Comes Up Short At SUNYIT

Box Score (Utica, N.Y.)- Junior Kaitlin Myers (Dannemora, N.Y.) turned in another stellar performance for the SUNY Canton women's basketball team and a strong second-half rally came up just short in a 73-56 loss to SUNYIT Monday night in Utica.

Myers dropped in 17 points, including a 6-for-7 performance at the free throw line, grabbed seven rebounds, handed out five assists, made three steals, and blocked two shots playing nearly the entire contest.

The Roos fell behind 43-30 at halftime but then reeled off a 19-9 run over a nine minute stretch of the second half to slash the Wildcats lead down to five points.  Myers and freshman  Cortney Whalen (Hammond, N.Y.) each scored eight points and freshman Jenise Torres (Albany, N.Y.) knocked down a 3-pointer during that streak.  SUNYIT regrouped and closed the game on a 17-5 run to secure the win.

Whalen finished with a season-high 16 points and eight rebounds for the Roos (2-5).  Torres also had her top performance of her freshman campaign with 15 points on 6-for-9 shooting from the field.  Junior Jackie Sedlacek (Endicott, N.Y.) pulled in 10 rebounds to go along with four points and four assists for SUNY Canton.

The Wildcats were led by Kayla McNeil who poured in 25 points and snagged 11 rebounds for the double-double.  Lyndsey Brognano added 17 points and six boards.

SUNY Canton returns home for their next game on Wednesday, Nov. 30 to take on SUNY Cobleskill at 6 p.m.
