Men’s and Women’s Hockey Teams Volunteer at Kick’n It for Kim & Jim on Saturday

Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton men's and women's hockey teams spent time on Saturday volunteering at the local Kick'n It for Kim & Jim event, a local fundraiser to raise money for the family of two parents who were tragically killed in an accident in July.

The family fun day event was held on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. outdoors at Potsdam's Pine Street Arena. The women's and men's hockey teams at SUNY Canton combined to volunteer the entire day.

The event was in honor of Kimberly and James Barney II, who lost their lives in a tragic accident in Raybrook, NY on July 24. The day included adult and youth kickball tournaments, a vendor show, concessions, musical entertainment, and lots of activities for kids. All proceeds went directly to the family for the benefit of their five children.

"Everyone was very impressed with your athletes. Many comments were made regarding how polite and hardworking each and every one of these individuals were," Jamie Reed, Organizer for Kick'n It for Kim & Jim, noted. "The young women came first thing in the morning and assisted with the balloon sales and umpiring kickball games, while the men also umpired games and helped sell raffle tickets. These individuals were instrumental in the success of our event. Without their help we would not have been able to make this all happen."
